Residents of Fitzroy Street contacted the Daily Liberal on Monday to complain about a number of incidents of bad behaviour, including allegations a man was assaulted and hospitalised after players and supporters left a celebration at the South Dubbo Tavern.
Mr Kelly, a life member and former coach of the club, said the majority of the club's 80 players and their supporters were shocked and dismayed by the reports of bad behaviour.
"We work a lot with developing players to get them off the streets so this sort of thing doesn't happen," Mr Kelly said.
"This club has a great record of supporting the community, fund-raising for the hospital and for kids," he said.
Mr Kelly said since the club was founded in 1959 it had worked hard year after year to ensure it remained part of the local rugby league competition.
"It's a good club and we don't condone this sort of behaviour," he said. "We are very disappointed by these reports. We can't do much at the moment [the investigation] it is in the hands of the police.
Mr Kelly said a group of five was now the centre of the investigation of the assault.
"We don't know whether it was a player, friend of a player or a supporter," he said."
Mr Kelly said he and Mr Board had already telephoned some Fitzroy Street residents to apologise for the disturbance.
"Kids are kids and it just takes one bad apple.
"It's a small area and we want to mend a few fences.
Mr Board told the Daily Liberal the club would crack down heavily on any players who bought the club's name into disrepute.
