DUBBO boxers Shane Konz, Luke O’Connor and Braden Wynne head to Wellington tomorrow night, but shouldn’t expect to get too much support from the local crowd at Wellington Soldiers Memorial Club.

The locals don’t take too kindly to Dubbo sportsmen coming into the town and winning. Konz has been there before with CYMS rugby league teams; he knows what it’s like.
But it will be up to the three boys to fight their own battles once they step into the ring.
The pressure will especially be on O’Connor who is having his first professional bout in the 75kg middleweight division.
All three are out of Brad Soper’s Fitness Corner gym and are handled by John Halford.
“All’s sweet, especially for ‘Sugar’ Shane Kontz,” Halford said.
“The big fellow has been training the house down is ready to give it his best shot.
“These 105kg guys in the super heavyweight division are a treat to watch and it will be a battle of the fittest to see who’s standing up best at the end.
“I’m also looking forward to seeing how much improvement’s left in Braden Wynne who was really impressive in winning his first fight at Coonamble a couple of weeks ago.
“He just got beat on points at his first two outings and while he’s still learning, he’s getting better each time.”
Halford said the fight of the night featuring Wellington’s Joel Galea should be a beauty.
“The locals will get behind Joel and that’s going to be one of his strong points,” Halford said.
“He lost his first pro fight at Dubbo not too long ago but he’ll be more at ease this time with plenty of local support.”
Galea will be going in against Sydney’s Justin Kallu, who is one from two.
Galea is also one of the new faces of fight promotion, working on Saturday night’s 13-fight card with Halford.
Galea originally got interested in fighting for self-defence.
But now he’s taking the sport more seriously and he likes nothing better than putting in many kilometres of running each day, plus hours in the gym.
The card also includes a number of other Wellington boys with Wayde Hinch, Scott Dorin and James Flemming having their first bouts.
The doors open at 6pm for 7pm start with admission set at $30 for adults and $20 for kids under 16.
