The drivers start rolling into the city today and come 7pm Saturday night, the foot will be on throttle for what should be one of the most spectacular nights of racing ever seen on the track.
One driver who won’t have to travel long distances to get on the grid is Dubbo’s Jeremy Cross who has toughed it out on some of the most competitive tracks in Australia, and particularly at Parramatta Speedway in Sydney.
He won’t be lacking in courage or be overawed by the presence of the visitors. The series crosses the country with rounds at capital cities and a few regional tracks.
Dubbo is fortune to have been invited and Morris Park promoters Leanne Anning and Frank Cross jumped at the opportunity to host the only round to be decided in New South Wales.
“This is a major event for Dubbo and it will bring visitors who follow this series religiously, from all over the state and interstate to the local area,” Anning said.
“The WSS is a well oiled series, with its crew of organisers putting everything into place, right down to the support of tracks that host a round.
“They also have a massive big screen that travels with the show, one which holds equipment to broadcast the event via audio link all over the globe. Listeners tune in from NZ, UK and USA to catch their sprintcar heroes as races happen.
“You can’t get better exposure for an event. These drivers have a global following, like that of Australia No.1, Brooke Tatnell, son of the late sprintcar legend, George Tatnell.
“Brooke resides in the USA for part of the year and has a massive following. It’s a privilege to have him visit Dubbo.”
Dubbo is almost certain to see American Jason Johnson on the grid and his duels with Tatnell, Max Dumesny and Gary Brazier will be fascinating.
According to Anning, the current list reads like the who’s who of speedcar racing - Brooke Tatnell (car number A1), Trevor Green (S4), Danny Reidy (NT5), Max Dumesny (V5), Matt Young (N6), Robbie Farr (Q7), Steve Lines (W7), Ian Madsen (AC11), Gary Brazier (N21), Ricki Maiolo (S24), James McFadden (NQ27), James Matherson (N29), Eddie Lumbar (N36), Shaun Dobson (Q36), Grant Anderson (V37), Jeremy Cross (N39), Brent Aprile (NQ42), Mark Blyton (N47), Jason Johnson USA (NQ47), Jackson Delamont (N48), Dylan Jenkin (S51), Peter Lack (Q58), Cameron Gessner (Q68), John McCorkindale (N69), Jeff Lawler (N73), Glen Saville (N75) and David Murcott (Q83).
That list is certain to grow come Saturday night.
Gates open at 5pm when hot-laps and time trails will take place before racing starts at 7pm.
Canteen and bar facilities will be available and there will be no glass or alcohol allowed to be taken into the venue.
