Western Districts Memorial Park has been decked out with Australian flags this week to mark Remembrance Day today.
Staff placed a flag at each of the graves carrying the defence forces’ insignias.
It was a little more of the new owners’ tender love and care for the once-neglected private cemetery.
The former owners of Western Districts Memorial Park came under fire in November 2009 for allowing weeds to grow and lawn to die at the facility.
New owner Bernadette Tipping vowed to turn that around but this week Dubbo woman Sharon Hutchinson expressed her disappointment at the state of the cemetery.
She and her brother were upset to find a lack of vases and dirt on headstones on visit to their grandparents’ graves, she wrote in a letter to the editor.
Co-owner Mel Henry yesterday offered to speak to Ms Hutchinson and spoke about what had been achieved in less than 18 months.
"We are a family, locally-owned business and take pride in what we have achieved," Ms Henry said.
"We have worked tirelessly to bring the park to where it should be.
"We acknowledge we still have a long way to go, and hope that the people of Dubbo support us in such an emotionally-driven industry."
The cemetery had a weekly maintenance program to mow around the more than 4600 graves and remove any dead flowers, Ms Henry said.
They provided more than 2000 vases and the groundsmen distributed them evenly during their weekly rounds, she said.
