Not only was the day thoroughly enjoyed by the 60-plus players who turned out to play 18 holes but more importantly organisers also managed to raise $3500 for Dubbo Base Hospital.
Money raised from last year’s event funded improvements to the palliative care room in G Ward at the hospital, including new paintwork and curtains, framed pictures, a recliner chair and outdoor furniture.
One of the day’s many organisers Craig Biles said the golf results weren’t taken too seriously as everyone was there in good spirits to honour and remember Marty Gordon, a remarkable sportsman - particularly in rugby league - and a valuable member of the Indigenous community.
It was agreed that Paul West and Stephen Shaw were the best for the men, Guy Naden and Leigh Wellman topped the mixed and Arunthy Pavan and Anna Toomey took out the women’s competition.
“We were very happy with the turn out and thank people for their support,” Biles said.
“The day wouldn’t have gone ahead with out the help of our sponsors Thubbo AMS, The Castlereagh Hotel, Dubbo Carpet Court and Australian Indigenous Business services.
“We did up our own handicaps for the day, so most people are just amateur and social golfers wanting to have a bit of fun.
“Although you always get some people who liked to be competitive, so there was some friendly banter about the final results, but everyone was very honest with the way they thought they played.”
