Ducks are reminded that the bus leaving time has been amended to 7.30am from Ogden’s depot.
There is high expectation for some strong performances in this carnival but the opposition is expected to be tough. We can only do our best.
Last Sunday the Ducks got in their last practice session before Wellington with some very good times recorded.
The gun swimmer was none other than The Colonel himself. He was .02 from his time and also picked up a lucky number prize - his third collect in as many weeks.
Four finals were decided after some chances came and went in the various heats.
First up was the 25m freestyle with Judy Walsh the winner from Brian Walsh while the hopes of Zohe Hughes were dashed when she broke.
In the 25m butterfly, freestyle relay, Zohe Hughes teamed with Elsie Scullard for success. The minor placings went to David Sparkes and Tony Wall (second) and Bill Greenwood and Jeff Davis (third).
There was some confusion at the finish when the handicapper found that the combinations of Ian Jones and Brian Walsh; and John Wherritt and Don Attenborough had both broken.
The 50m freestyle event for AIF members saw six heats finalised before the finalists were decided and it was Ron Everett who came through in front of Matt McDonagh and Judy Walsh, with John Wherritt fourth.
The 100m freestyle closest to handicap resulted in a fine win for Brian Schloeffel at .09 leaving Zohe Hughes and Mark Scullard to share the minor placings.
Special congratulations to our very special member Kevin Hopkins on his OAM, a reward greatly deserved.
In other club news, we welcome back Ian Jones from holidays, and Matt Dover; while Greg Salmon celebrated a birthday.
We also acknowledge a great win by Ron Soden in Dubbo veteran men’s golf.
The winner of the January point score is yet to be announced but we reckon Greg Salmon will be right up there with 35 points.
For your diary, please remember that Sunday, February 13 is the Inland Distributors Trophy day, courtesy of the Williams family - valued friends of the Ducks for many, many years.
