Up against 40 other competitors, there’s no doubt she deserves to be happy with the result.
The 10-year-old qualified to compete at the state level with success at a spate of carnivals.
From her school carnival she was selected to compete at the Cluster carnival (for northern region schools), she then made it through to the Bathurst Diocese carnival, before cracking her personal best at NSW Catholic Primary Schools Polding area carnival with a 24.40 metre throw.
She went into the state carnival as the second best qualifier.
Charlotte is involved in a number of sports, including soccer and track cycling in which she is the NSW state champion for the junior scratch event and second in the time trial event, throwing a discus is just something she fell into.
There have been many things she’s had to learn and under the watchful eye of athletics coach Ross Polton she’s become a success.
“I was in year two at my school athletics carnival when I did discus for the first time,” she said.
“I realised I liked it and I then went and joined little A’s and won a silver for it at regionals in early 2009.
“There are a list of things I had to learn to be able to throw it properly.
“You have to follow the discus with your eyes all the time and when your winding up for the throw you need to try and do it as fast as possible.
“I find it hard to remember with all the things I need to be doing.
“I’m always scared of fouling, at Polding I fouled the first time, then the second time I made 18 metres and then my PB over 24 metres.”
