Dubbo College Senior Campus has won seven of the 10 sports contested and retained the Ken Eggleton Cup after two days of exciting competition against St John’s College.

Senior Campus won the girls volleyball two sets to nil, 25-8 and 25-20. The winners had just a little more experience and better combinations.
Best for St John’s were Rebecca Wilde and Emma Campbell while Senior Campus’ best were Claire Bernasconi, Ellie Farquhar and Nikki Buxton in a good team effort.
In the boys basketball Senior Campus got up 62-46. This was a very good game with a lot of players from Dubbo rep teams on show.
St John’s young skilful team had a good first quarter but in the second period the match was won and lost with Senior Campus providing some great combinations that converted into points.
The quarter scores were (1st quarter) 10-8 St John’s; (half-time) 30-16 Senior College; (3/4 time) 46-29 Senior College. It was interesting that St John’s won the first and last quarters in terms of points scored.
Best players: (St John’s) Luke Anderson, Curtis Bennett, Blake Hewish; (Senior Campus) Jesse Johnson, Micheal Townsend, Nick Brooks.
In the girl’s soccer the Senior Campus won 4-1 in another great game. The final score did St John’s no justice after it was 0-0 at half-time.
Goals in the second period came from Jane Winter (Senior College) 1-0; Ella Wheelhouse (St John’s) 0-1; then in the last nine minutes goals came from Nyoka Boney, Cassie Toomey (2) to finishing the game.
Best players: (St John’s) Taylor Braithwaite, Megan Lathan, Ella Wheelhouse; (Senior College) Jane Winter, Kaitlyn Mason, Cassie Toomey.
St John’s got their own back with a great 18-17 victory in the rugby union game which doubled up as the Western Area final of Yeates Shield Country Schools.
Senior Campus played attacking and free-flowing running rugby at all opportunities and led 14-0 to be in control of the game.
Kieran Cubby and Bill Barnes scored the tries and Cubby converted both. In the second half a disciplined St John’s came back into the game through tries to Mitch Gersbach and Joe Evans.
Tim Thornhill kicked one conversion but the Senior College still led 14-12.
In the 22nd minute Thornhill kicked a penalty goal to see St John’s get back to 14-14 but Cubby replied with a 40m drop goal to change the scoreboard again.
Then at the 32nd minute a late tackle penalty against Senior Campus saw Thornhill again on the spot with another penalty goal to secure the win.

St John’s now plays winner of Southern Province away in coming weeks.
