Competition and recreational enthusiasts say the alleged serial offender is giving cycling a bad name and have called on him to stop.

Decked out in riding shirt and shoes, and a distinctive white helmet, the unidentified man has allegedly caused thousands of dollars worth of damage in recent months.

Local cyclists have viewed enlarged security camera images of the man but have been unable to assist with identification.

“We don’t recognise the man as someone who rides with us,’’ Orana Veterans Cycling Club and Dubbo Bicycle Users Group representative Kathy Furney said.

“He has a good bike and appropriate clothing and equipment but appears to be overweight. We are not happy with what he is doing. Riding around slashing tyres at car yards is such a senseless thing to do.

“The man is causing problems for business and creating a bad impression. We urge anyone with useful information to contact the police.’’

Angry and frustrated car dealers hope video footage will be the vandal’s downfall.

Sainsbury Automotive general manager Steve Bicket is calling on the community to help bring the man to justice.

“Someone out there must know this guy, must recognise him,” Mr Bicket said.

“We’re p***ed off. Blatant damage for no reason is really frustrating.’’

Mr Bicket said forking out $200 a week for new tyres added up and was equivalent to a weekly wage.

“It will cost jobs in Dubbo if this keeps up,” he said.

Ms Furney said images of the cyclist indicate he is making no attempt to hide his appearance.

“Unfortunately his face cannot be clearly seen in the photographs but I am sure someone out there has a pretty good idea of his identity.

“There aren’t many cyclists in Dubbo with white helmets. This man will need to be careful in the future because the cycling community is well aware of his activities and will be keeping an eye out.’’
