Mr Leslie, who has worked as both an announcer and music director at 2DU, said he would leave his long career behind with a great sense of satisfaction.
“I am satisfied of having served our listeners and client stations,” he said.
Mr Leslie, whose voice has become a familiar sound around Dubbo’s breakfast tables, started as a a cadet engineer at 3XY in Melbourne.
“I left school at age 16 and started working at 3XY,” he said.
“At 19 I became an announcer after attending radio school and receiving tutoring from the staff at 3XY.”
Country music is another passion of Mr Leslie.
He has been a judge at the Tamworth Country Music Festival for many years.
“I will still be involved in the country music industry with the Australian Country Music Foundation and the Golden Guitars,” he said.
Mr Leslie said he could recall many memorable moments from his career.
“Being elevated to the Broadcasters Roll of Renown in Tamworth, being the only original judge for the Golden Guitar Awards still judging, the English royal visit to Dubbo, the evacuation of flooded Nyngan, introducing Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs at Apex Oval and having Tammy Wynette do a stopover concert in Dubbo just to name a few,” he said.
“Also being named number one in the official radio surveys in Dubbo.
“I am very grateful to not only the staff here at 2DU but also to radio listeners in the west of New South Wales.”
Listeners can hear Mr Leslie’s last program on July 3.
