Dubbo will be represented in hockey, basketball and swimming when the Pacific School Games get underway in Canberra at the weekend.

More than 3000 primary and secondary student competitors - aged from 10 to19 years - will compete.
They will build on the tradition of past Pacific School Games, fostering friendship and understanding of other cultures through a rare sporting and educational spectacle.
The 2008 Games comprises of five sports - athletics, basketball, diving, hockey and swimming.
Dubbo Rams player of the year and Dubbo Basketball junior development coach Claire Hargreaves (St John’s Primary) will be in charge of the NSW Primary Girls team.
At the hockey competition Hunter Medcalf (Dubbo South Public) will play for NSW and in the pool Robert Drew (Dubbo Senior College) will swim in the 16-19 years MD 50m and 100m freestyle events.
In track and field, Victoria McKnight from Wellington High School will be looking for success in the 14-years javelin event.
In a packed program for the Games from November 30 to December 6, athletics and swimming are the only sports to have been on the program at each of the past seven Games.
Diving has been featured at a number of previous Games and basketball returns after its impressive debut in 2005, while in 2008 hockey will make its debut.
Events for students with disabilities will again follow the multi disability format in swimming and athletics. Wheelchair basketball will again be part of the basketball program.
