The musical includes scores of references to the much-loved children’s books and follows the recent cinematic success Horton Hears a Who.
Suessical can be seen at Dubbo Civic Centre at 7.30pm on Friday November 28 and 2pm and 5pm on the weekend of November 29 and 30.
Tickets will soon be available at Snare’s Newsagency in Talbragar Street.
Preparing for the show has been a joy for director Jamie Foster and the cast of 50.
“We’ve all be reliving our childhoods and talking about our favourite Dr Seuss characters,’’ he said.
“The star of this show is Horton the elephant. Along the way he encounters the Sour Kangaroo and Whoville, Yertle the Turtle, Lazy Mayzie la Bird, Gertrude McFuzz and of course the Cat in the Hat.
“Characters from 15 Dr Seuss books are incorporated in a story about helping a friend, not giving up and using your imagination.’’
Mr Foster said the theatre company was in full scale rehearsals, honing rhythms and rhymes to match Dr Seuss’ great poetic style.
Construction of costumes and sets is also in full swing.
“It takes many people to put a show like this together and everyone, including the audience, plays their part in its ultimate success,’’ Mr Foster said.
“As Horton says, a person’s a person no matter how small.’’
