Senior Dubbo players Jordan Moran and Nathan Munro may have dominated the crease for Macquarie Valley Colts in their trial against Western Zone 17s, but the experience will be invaluable ahead of Western’s challenge for honours in the Southern Colts carnival coming up in a fortnight.

That’s the opinion of Western coach David Tink after the Macquarie Valley side cruised to a 68-run victory in the game played at No.2 Oval in Dubbo yesterday. Macquarie Valley made 220 and had Western out for 152 in reply.
Moran made top score of 87 in an innings that included seven 4s and four 6s, while Munro was out for 67.
Tink said his bowlers would learn from the experience of trying to work out two former Country Colts representatives.
“This was an ideal situation for our bowlers,” Tink said.
“Jordan and Nathan worked the ball around the field and treated all the bowlers on their merits.
“If they bowled loose balls then they were punished. The same thing can happen to them in the Colts carnival.
“The running between the wickets was also first class and again the fieldsmen were under pressure.
“We’ll take what we learned from this game and the one on Wednesday against St George and hopefully go to Cowra in a fortnight with a positive outlook.
“There are three days of cricket in the Southern Carnival and we will be looking on more improvement.”
With Moran and Munro setting the standard, Macquarie Valley finished with 220. But the bowler who came out of the game with flying colours was Bathurst quick Joseph Coughlan who claimed 5-42 from nine overs - his second spell particularly impressive - taking note that his sixth over cost him 20 runs.
Spinner Danial Holland from Dubbo also chipped in with 3-13 from six well-directed overs - the prize scalp of Munro a gem when he bowled him neck and crop.
Left-arm quick Jackson Coote also bowled a good line and length, and impressed the coach.
The Western batting started promisingly enough with Danial Holland the best with 43 batting at No.3 while Peter Guthrie (Canowindra) looked good for his 27 and Matt Fisher (Dubbo) will benefit from the experience, finishing with 19.
