The day started with multicultural groups parading down Macquarie and Talbragar streets before making their way to Victoria Park for celebrations.
Dubbo resident Maurice Turner was grateful when finally receiving his Australian Citizenship after residing in the country for 22 years.
“It feels fantastic, Dubbo and Australia have been very good to me and this is a way of saying thank you, I am an official Dubbo resident now,” Mr Turner said.
Mr Turner moved to Australia to marry the love of his life that he met from Gulargambone.
“I met Lynne in England and moved here after marrying her,” he said.
Mr Turner said apart from the weather, England and Australia are very different.
“The lifestyle is more laid back and it took me a while to get used to the heat, but it was worth it.”
Mr Turner said his family is proud of him for finally becoming an Australian resident and it makes him feel more complete with them.
Wife Lynne said even though she is proud of her husband, nothing will change between them.
“He still feels like a Pom to me, even after being together for the past 30 odd years,” she said.
The park was set up with stalls, a jumping castle, international food tasting and performances from different cultures.
The ceremony recognised people from all backgrounds and was well supported by the local community and organisers.
