This is the second year Dubbo has sent four teams to the competition and with six weeks of training behind each side they are hoping to come home with some good results.
Dubbo will be entering sides in the 35s division one, 35s division two, 40s division one and 45s division two with each side playing a minimum of five games over the four days.
The State championships are held every second year with a half-State competition held every other year.
Three years ago the Dubbo 35s division one side came away with the half-State title, but with injuries affecting the team’s preparation this year coach Craig Johnston is only hoping for the best effort from his team.
“One of our key players Jane Thompson had to pull out due to a family illness and another one of our players Julie Webber has a broken finger,” Johnston said.
“The ladies came together though on Monday night and trained really well and they are all still keen to put on a good show at the championships,” he said.
The veteran’s championships draws roughly 120 teams from across NSW and Johnston said while the competition was fierce the social side of the tournament was just as fun.
“They have a big dinner dance on the Friday night where all the players like to re-live their glory days,” Johnston said.
“The tournament is very competitive on the field and a lot of fun off it,” he said.
The championships will finish up on Sunday.
