Coached by Albi Mastellotto, Dubbo took out the Western Branch Intertown Youth League last weekend after proving too strong for rivals Lithgow and Orange at Orange.
They won 5-0 and 11-0 respectively to assert their authority on their age division.
Along the way Dubbo lost only lost one game out of six and in doing so scored 35 goals for and only five against, a stat which pleased Mastellotto.
“It wasn’t so much how many goals we scored because our attack wasn’t a real concern for me at the beginning of the tournament, but it was our defence and it was something we worked on real hard and the players responded well,” he said.
“All players put in some fine performances throughout the tournament, but none were better than Blake Astley scoring 10 goals, Kienan Wahbi (8) and Brenton Duncan (6). In all there were nine different goal scorers.”
Mastellotto stressed that Dubbo’s defence was well led by Kurt Munro, Thomas Carruthers, Andrew Tarry, Jordan Winn and Remy Hemberg and did Dubbo proud in conceding the five goals and continually turning defence into attack.
Due to Dubbo’s defence, goalkeeper Jack Miller wasn’t called on to do much work, but when he was he did an awesome job with a number of good saves.
Dubbo’s midfield led by Jake Harris, until he broke his arm in the second round, was the main factor in Dubbo’s goal-scoring opportunities and was ably assisted by Alex Duffy, Adam Malcolm, Sam Duffy, Robby Calder and Jack Lewis.
In all it was a very pleasing result for those involved and a tremendous effort was put in by all.
The parents are also thanked for their time and efforts, and Dubbo Soccer for its support.
