The club was officially recognised at the weekend by visiting Nationals senator Fiona Nash who inspected the newly completed water-saving initiative which it is estimated will save 1.4 million litres of water a year.
The project, with $50,000 in funds provided under the Federal Government’s Community Water Grants program, will save water through the use of more efficient irrigation systems and by recycling the water used and by capturing and re-using run-off irrigation water.
Senator Nash was joined by Dubbo MP Dawn Fardell in congratulating the club on its environmentally responsible approach.
“The current drought has certainly reinforced just how precious our water resources are,” Senator Nash said.
“It’s important that everyone in the community plays their part in conserving such a precious resource and the project here at the bowling club is the perfect example of the steps we can all take in being more water-wise.
The Community Water Grants program offers grants to help local community organisations save, recycle and improve the health of their local water resources.
