The newly-formed Lone Star squad, that includes Dubbo track and field athletes Brad Woods and Madeline Samson along with Narromine's Paddy O'Donoghue and Heidi Russell, will attend a three-day intensive training camp.
Highly-respected sprints coach Jackie Byrnes, who guided the fortunes of Melinda Gainsford-Taylor through her career, will conduct sprints training sessions with the local stars who will be joined by some of west's elite junior sportsmen and women.
Other track and field athletes who will work with Byrnes are Australian champion shot putter and representative rugby player Greg Smith-O'Neill from Orange, Australian triple jump champion Kirsty Tapscott (Cowra), high jumper Ilka Manners (Bathurst) and Parkes middle distance runner Frank Iglewski.
Also in attendance will be Australian rugby player Shane Udy from Orange, NSW cricketer Tegan Clarke (Parkes), NSW soccer player Belinda Muldoon (Lithgow), swimmer James Taylor (Cowra) and Country representative ATSI basketballer, John Simpson from Bathurst.
Joining the academy squad in Dubbo for the three days are two coaches and eight track and field athletes from the Northern Inland Academy of Sport.
The Sydney Academy of Sport will have their sports science testing van carrying out physiological testing of all athletes and video taping their individual styles for analysis.
This will include underwater video recording of the swimming and split screen taping of basketball.
The Sydney academy staff is also conducting lectures for these and all other western region academy athletes from Dubbo on Saturday and Sunday.
Dubbo high schools have been invited to send staff and senior students to the lectures which will cover flexibility, stretching and core stability.
To round off a big weekend for the academy in Dubbo, head netball coach and coach of the NSW under-17 team Linda Macleod is conducting a coaching clinic for netball coaches of all levels at Dubbo College senior campus gym from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Monday.
The clinic will cover skills and drills, suitable for club and representative teams. Coaches and parents of junior players are invited.
The academy softball squad will host and compete in the Softball Inter-Academy Games at Gulgong and the basketball squad, which includes Dubbo's Elliot Goard, Brooke Murphy and Matt Taylor, have a training camp at Bathurst.

Remaining LS athletes to attend SAS testing (St Johns). 12.30pm, lunch. 1.15pm, LS T&F athletes with SAS (St Johns). Remaining LS athletes' track session with Jackie Byrnes (St Johns). 3pm-4pm, James Taylor to pool for video session (Dubbo RSL Indoor Pool). 3.45pm, afternoon tea, 4.30pm: LS group lecture with SAS - flexibility and stretching, core strength (Aussie Cabins). 6pm: LS non-T&F athletes' depart.
Sunday May 5: 7.30am, early morning warm up. 9.30am, LS T&F athletes' session with Jackie Byrnes (St Johns). 10am-11.30am: lectures for Dubbo athletes, Year 12 PE and coaches. 12.30pm, wrap up.
