Jamal, who lives at Dubbo, credits culture and his mentors for helping him "develop into a better person".
On Thursday Jamal, 16, dressed traditionally, appeared on stage to perform a group cultural dance at the launch of Uniting's Reconciliation Action Plan at Dubbo.
"I've had a couple of struggles through life and I turned to culture and culture's really helped me develop into a better person," Jamal said.
"I'm so glad I have culture to look on and to practise and love."
