The volunteers were on the ground as part of Channel Nine’s live farm aid telethon broadcast at the Dubbo Showgrounds.
Australia’s largest food charity supplies more than 70 per cent of all food relief in the nation and is currently in its 26th year of operation.
The charity has supplied more than 20 million meals from July, 1, 2017 to June, 30, 2018, in NSW and the ACT.
FBNA chief executive Gerry Andersen said 40 per cent of their meals goes to rural and regional NSW
They supply one hundred tonne of food a week to regional and rural charities.
“And when we were in Dubbo we provided 15 pallets of fruit and vegetables, including apples, oranges, potatoes and watermelon,” he said.
‘Which went to people who came (for the drought telethon) and farmers…
“We were just happy to give it away to people who we knew needed some help.”
As well as the fresh fruit and vegetables FBNA gave away two pallets of drinking water in 600mL bottles.
“We jsut gave it away, we thought we needed to coem dowen and help the community,” he said.
So as not to upset the retailers, Mr Andersen said they let the local supermarkets know they were coming ahead of the event.
Doctor Doctor star Roger Corser and David Campbell personally know the FNBA group, Mr Andersen said, so while they were at Dubbo for the telethon they came over.
There are 607 registered charities for FBNA and Ms Anderesen said a third of those charities were in the bush.
There are currently four charities in Dubbo that FBNA support.
