The Campus has been buzzing over the past month, with staff and students coming together for a number of celebrations including NAIDOC Week on Friday, July 13 2018 and Wednesday, July 18 2018 to celebrate Foundation Day when the Charles Sturt University Act (Act no. 76, 1989) was signed.
On Monday, August 6 I hosted CSU Vice-Chancellor Andrew Vann and Strategic Adviser for Regional Development, Fiona Nash and the members of the Orana and Far Western Regional Consultative Committee. The dinner was a great opportunity to gather feedback from leaders of a variety of local organisations to be incorporated into the University Strategy 2017-2022.
We held our Scholarship Ceremony on Wednesday, August 8 2018 where a number of scholarships, prizes and Dean’s awards were distributed that recognised and celebrated the outstanding achievements of our students. It also recognised the contributions made by local businesses, organisations and individuals who sponsor an award, and enabled recipients to meet the donors and share their stories and explain what the award will do for them. The CSU Foundation has distributed 1.3 million this year in scholarships to assist and support students on their education journey.
The fifth biennial Tony McGrane Memorial Scholarship Dinner will be held on Monday, September 17 2018 at the Dubbo RSL Club. The University is closed aligned to the Tony McGrane Foundation and I urge local businesses to get a table together for the dinner. Tickets are available for purchase from the RSL Club which will go towards raising funds for scholarships to be awarded to students in our rural footprint. . Through the proceeds of the previous four dinners, combined with many generous personal donations, the Tony McGrane Foundation has already awarded 12 Annual Scholarships. This year’s recipient was CSU Dubbo nursing student, Teneille Adams from Trangie.
There are still many opportunities available through our Community-University Partnership (CUP) Grant program and I encourage those who may be interested in applying for a grant, to do it! More information about the CUP Grants program and the application process can be found here.
