The last time these two sides met in an RSL-Whitney Cup decider was back in 1997.
Wayne Munro, the father of current Rugby captain Nathan, skippered the side in those days while his side also featured the late Danny Bower, father of current Souths captain Mitch.
It was South Dubbo which one the game that season, with Jarrod Simpson producing a man of the match performance.
Simpson top-scored in Souths’ total of 9/227 before ripping through Rugby on his way to taking 5/44.
Rugby could only manage 163 in reply.
South Dubbo was captained by John Colwell that season and the man known as ‘J.C’ was part of the Souths side which lost the decider in 2015/16.
The Hornets also lost last season’s grand final in what was an epic encounter with RSL-Colts.
