Rhyme Time at the Dubbo Macquarie Regional Library is one of those.
The 45 minute program for children aged 0 to 5 years, and their parents, carers and grandparents, has become one of the ‘must do’ things each week.
The event has become so popular in recent times that the Library staff even counted a total of 123 children and adults at one of the events.
Every Friday at 11am Library staff sing, dance and rhyme to the visitors
Dubbo Macquarie Regional Library branch manager Peter Irwin said on average each week there are about 60 to 70 adults and children in attendance.
“We’re pleasantly surprised with the large numbers,” he said.
“And that people are liking the service.”
Mr Irwin said Rhyme Time offers a great opportunity for new parents to meet up with other mums and dads, or for grandparents and carers to do something different with the children.
“I think it’s good for new parents, as well as the child, because Rhyme Time has a social element to it,” he said.
“We always encourage visitors to borrow a book or magazine, but they’ll even grab a coffee.. so it’s a bit of a social outing for them.”
Mr Irwin said it was great to see dads coming along too.
“As well as Rhyme Time we’ve noticed more dads are coming along to Lego Club with their child or as a whole family,” he said.
“Everybody loves it, they all get in and sing.”
Rhyme Time is presented each Friday of the school term from 11am to 11:45am.
