Prolific winner Danish Lace heads the nominations for the event, which has drawn eight potential runners, but the classy mare will need to lump a lot of weight if she is to claim the $20,000 event.
Racing NSW handicappers allotted the Peter Nestor-trained mare 64.5kg, meaning that even if regular rider Kaylee Kirkwood takes the mount she will still carry 63kg after the apprentice’s claim is taken into account.
While the numbers might be light, the race has drawn some quality nominations.
Brett Thompson’s city-winning gelding Slate On Edge has been given 64kg while Crooked Blaze, prepared at Tamworth by Melissa Dennett, has been asked to carry 62kg.
Final fields for the Coonamble meeting will be released on Thursday morning.
