Tuesday, February 20 was ‘Love Your Pet Day’ so we thought to get into the spirit we’d ask our readers to send in photos of their fur babies to celebrate the national day.
We received a great range of pets, from puppers to doggos and cats.
According to the Australian Veterinary Association in 2016 it was estimated that there were more than 24 million pets in Australia.
At 62 per cent, Australia continues to have one of the highest household rates of pet ownership in the world with around 5.7 million of Australia’s 9.2 million households home to a pet.
The AVA reported that dogs remain the most popular type of pet with almost two in five households (3.6 million) owning a dog.
Cats were the next most common type of pet with nearly three in 10 households owning a cat (2.7 million).
The AVA also reported that Australian households are spending more than $12.2 billion annually on pet products and services.
