Dubbo College students walked away with honours from the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza where they were among 450 competitors.

The students and their steers performed well at the Bonanza, which was held in the last term of 2017, with unled Limousin steer “Dicko” taking first place in his class in the carcass competition and went on to win reserve champion steer with a score of 92.59.
“Dicko” was bred by Senior Campus and Nigel and Naomi White of Dubbo. He also received the highest score for a Limousin carcass in the competition.
Dubbo College agriculture teachers Steph Colgan and Megan Mrowka and 16 of the students, carted 10 steers to the Beef Bonanza in Scone where more than 390 steers took part in the competition.
The college announced its team’s achievements on Monday.
Dubbo college students picked up two seconds and a third place in the junior judging and parading, as well as a top 10 place.
Year 11 student Piper Dunlop was awarded second place in the 16 years age group, while Nash Rodda from Year 9 was awarded second place in his heat for parading.

Year 11 student Laine Hall was awarded third in his heat for parading, while Year 8 student Ryan Maxwell was in the top 10 students in his age group.
Agriculture teacher Steph Colgan from Dubbo College said the results for the cattle included a third place and two highly commended in the light-middle weight class.
“The third place went to ‘Nigel’ who was bred by Dubbo College and Nigel and Naomi White,” Ms Colgan said.
“The highly commended awards went to ‘Miller’ and ‘Solomons’, with Miller bred by Dubbo College and Nigel and Naomi White, and Solomons bred by Glen Park Angus of Mandurama.”
“Year 10 student Marcus Morley led ‘Nigel’, while Year 9 student Nash Rodda led ‘Miller’ and Year 9 student Harley Hudson led ‘Solomons’.”
Ms Colgan said she was very happy with the show team’s results. She also thanked the breeders, Nigel and Naomi White and Glen Park Angus.
