Taking on runaway leaders RSL-Colts Red on Saturday, Newtown Black produced one of the bowling efforts of the season on the way to winning by a dominant nine wickets.
Donnelly tore through the Colts lineup on his way to finishing with 6/35 from seven while Darren Davies chipped in with 3/16 from seven as the men in red were rolled for just 51.
Donnelly claimed four of the first five wickets, including top-scorer and captain Wayne Cole (20), and then went on with the job to give his side a major advantage.
Newtown Black had little trouble reaching the target, despite Corey Ashby striking early, as Craig Pettit (31 not out) hit his side home and got the Tigers within seven points of the competition leaders.
When captain Brayden McGhee fires, CYMS Green seems to fire and that was the case on Saturday when the Cougars edged out South Dubbo by eight runs.
McGhee hit 97 while Joe Jackson made 59 in CYMS Green’s total of 5/212. John Byrne (2/21) and Matt Wakeley (2/30) were Souths’ best.
Jeff Shanks (77) gave Souths a great chance to chase down the total but Mat Sharp (3/26) chimed in late while Daryl Thompson (3/36) also did a job in the hard-fought win.
A strong all-round performance from Luke Patis helped Macquarie White defeat Rugby Blue at John McGrath 1.
Patis came into the attack late and took 4/42 as Rugby Blue, led by James Rootes’ 56 and a cameo from Tony Quinn (50), went from 4/118 to be all out for 185.
Patis then hit 44 at the top of the order and had plenty of support from the likes of Tom Peacocke (42) and Cody Green (29) as Macquarie Blue won by five wickets.
Chris Lenord fired for Newtown Gold in Saturday’s 60-run win over RSL-Colts White.
At 7/135 Newtown Gold was in some trouble but Lenord hit a late 57 not out to help his side post 243.
Bailey Collins (3/31) bowled well for Colts White, which struggled to build any partnerships in the chase.
Lenord opened and finished with 0/23 from eight, while Shaun Swan (3/16) and Dylan Hamilton (2/39) led the way as Colts was dismissed for 183.
Tom Peacock top-scored with 24 in the loss.
A Fawad Baig half century and a team effort with the ball led Rugby Red to a convincing 81-run win over Macquarie White.
Baig opened the batting and made 63 for his side, while five other players made more than 20 in the total of 227.
Ben Walker claimed 4/33 from eight for Macquarie White, which slumped to 4/33 in reply.
Matt Ball hit 59 in the middle order but Brett Paul and Josh Connolly each claimed three wickets and Kye Matterson struck twice to help roll the Blues for 146.
Chris Newbold hit 66 to help Newtown White down CYMS White at Lady Cutler 1.
Newbold opened the batting and top-scored for his side with 66 as the Tigers went on to post 155.
Youngsters Lachlan Townsend (3/27 from eight) and Joe Kempston (2/17) bowled well for the Cougars.
While it wasn’t the biggest total to chase, CYMS Green struggled against a consistent Tigers attack.
Tom Skinner claimed 2/38 with the new ball and Michael Kent chimed in with 2/12 as CYMS Green was bowled out for 118. Zac Williams (32) top-scored.
The result saw Newtown White leapfrog CYMS White into third while the Cougars sit fourth, equal on points with fifth-placed Macquarie White.
