MAAS, Pickles Auctions putting Dubbo in the spotlight: Bidders from across Australia and around the world had their eyes on Dubbo when the city hosts the state’s largest single vendor civil and earth-moving auction.
Millions of dollars worth of specialised mining and quarrying equipment will go under the hammer in an unreserved auction on Wednesday, conducted by Pickles Auctions on behalf of MAAS Plant Hire.
Managing director Wes Maas said they expected 1500 bidders on site, with about 70 per cent of those expected to stay at least one night in Dubbo and some arriving as early as the weekend. Up to 30,000 are set to tune in online.
John Armati, former regional newspaper king, philanthropist dies: John Armati, entering the newspaper industry towards the end of its golden age, showed in a little over three decades what one man could do with the gifts of flair, judgement and ambition.
Starting in 1962 with a small newspaper group based in Dubbo, in western New South Wales, he built an empire comprising 64 regional newspapers. Embracing the new technology which swarmed in from the 1970s, he transformed his own operations – becoming the first newspaper proprietor in Australia to use visual display terminals - and created a vast magazine printing business.
If local newspapers were, in his words, the heart of their communities, he was the heart of the local newspapers.
Today Show stars set to visit Dubbo: Karl Stefanovic was set to come to town. The popular television host and his Today Show colleagues Lisa Wilkinson, Sylvia Jeffreys, Tim Gilbert and Richard Wilkins hit Dubbo, as part of the program’s 35th birthday celebrations.
The ‘We Love Australia’ tour incorporated visits to Hamilton Island, Winton and Glenrowan, the site of Ned Kelly’s final stand, before stopping in Dubbo on day four.
Dubbo's $140 million new bridge to be built on River Street: Dubbo’s third bridge will be located at River Street after the NSW government allocated $140 million to make the project a reality.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Dubbo MP Troy Grant said extensive community consultation had gone into choosing the best location. Mr Grant said River Street met the needs of the community, council, the transport industry and fitted in with plans for the future traffic flow of the city.
The government had previously allocated $50 million for the bridge, but the preferred location also required a new road connecting the Newell Highway to River Street, including an intersection at Thompson Street.
