Middleton, a personal trainer, will lead the squad both on and off the park and Jets secretary Mick Burns said he would be a huge asset for the club and the town.
"He's going to be massive but not just massive for the club but massive for the community," Burns said.
"He's just a really good young man. He's got goals football and life in general and that's going to have a flow-on effect for everybody.
"We're really lucky to have him and I hope everyone at the club and community gets around him because he wants to get involved."
Originally form Bourke, Middleton grew up in Dubbo and Narromine and first played for the Jets as a 17-year-old in first grade. Burns played with him then, before Middleton moved to Sydney where he played for the Balmain Tigers. He signed with the Redcliffe Dolphins in 2012.
"I played with him years ago ... but he's gone ahead in leaps and bounds," Burns said.
"He's a very positive man to speak to.
"We're exited for the new year."
