The team, including captains and vice-captains, arts and sports captains, have been adjusting to their new roles since the start of Term 4.
The new college captains are Daniel Ramirez and Hannah Mackie and vice-captains are Tyran Tuckey and Swazi Sharma.
Also part of the team are arts captains Robin Hall and Olivia Kirkman and sports captains Hamish Grant and Milla Ross.
All eight captains were elected by their peers and their teachers in a vote during Term 3.
School captains
Daniel has considerable leadership experience, having been the school captain at Dubbo College Delroy Campus in 2016.
“I’ve been involved in school leadership since I was on the SRC at Orana Heights,” he said.
“I’ve also been on the SRC at both Delroy Campus and Senior Campus and I am hoping that in the coming year as captain I can boost the college through strong programs and initiatives that benefit the students and cater for their interests.”
Daniel ultimately aims to study robotics or a software degree.
Fellow captain Hannah was both shocked and thrilled to be elected and cannot wait for what the future holds at Senior Campus.
“I am hoping to lead students and actively encourage them to try their hardest and make the most of all the amazing opportunities we have at Dubbo College,” Hannah said.
“Although it will undoubtedly be a very busy year, I’m looking forward to tackling the challenges of my HSC year, as well as taking the opportunity to represent my fellow students in all aspects of college life.”
Hannah is aiming to join the army following her Higher School Certificate.
Vice-captains
Vice-captain Tyran spent his infants and primary years in Sydney before arriving at Dubbo College South Campus.
“My aim for Senior Campus is to help foster tolerance and acceptance of the diverse cultural backgrounds of our many students,” he said.
“I really like the fact that our student body is representative of society at large and this enables us to learn about and readily accept differences in cultural and socio-economic status.”
Tyran would like to become a human rights advocate after studying global and international studies.
Swazi, who is also vice-captain, wants to help ensure students’ final two years of schooling is as smooth as possible.
“It is a real privilege to be elected and I am very keen to make sure the voice of the student body is heard,” she said.
“I’ll be making use of the skills I have gained in leadership from my previous schools, including Dubbo College South Campus, and contributing to our new team of leaders at Senior Campus.
“I like to see students achieving their best and I will be working hard to make sure all students have the opportunity to do so.”
Swazi is one of four students who will attend the National Youth Science Forum at the Australian National University in Canberra in January.
Arts captains
Arts captain Robin will also attend the National Youth Science Forum, as well as going on tour to the UK and Ireland with the Department of Education’s Symphony Orchestra in 2018.
The keen music and science student said he would endeavor to uphold the student voice and positively contribute to school and community life.
Following his HSC Robin intends to study a double degree in music and science with a major in physics.
Fellow arts captain Olivia is a proud Aboriginal woman and intends to represent Dubbo College by promoting the creative and performing arts.
The talented dancer said she was excited to be part of a cohesive leadership team and was looking forward to a challenging year ahead.
Following school Olivia hopes to further her education in Indigenous studies.
Sports captains
Sports captain Hamish’s favourite pastimes include basketball and soccer and his greatest sporting achievements include playing for Mariners and FCB Escola.
Hamish and fellow sports captain Milla will lead Dubbo College into the 2018 Astley Cup clash against the old enemies Orange and Bathurst High Schools.
Hamish, who would like to pursue a professional career in soccer, said he was looking forward to the next year of building relationships with students and teachers
He said it would be a year of learning valuable lessons and an important time to enjoy his last year of schooling with mates who had been by his side for 10 years.
Milla, who was involved with the Dubbo College South Campus SRC in 2015 and 2016, is also a keen soccer player.
Milla has also taken part in Astley Cup during the past two years, as well as Ken Eggleton Cup, CHS soccer, futsal, Western athletics and Serisier Cup.
Milla said she was hoping to contribute to fun and memorable sporting events, filled with an abundance of college spirit, including the all-important 2018 Astley Cup campaign.
