Several different stories have been floating around over the past few days surrounding the circumstances.
What we do know is that a delegation of councillors (the actual number unknown) approached Mr Riley on Thursday to inform him they had the numbers to remove him from the job. He reports to the councillors so they’re within their rights to do that
Ultimately there were three outcomes. He could be sacked at Monday night’s council meeting, he could resign or the parties could reach a mutual agreement.
They went with the latter, and Mr Riley took ‘leave’ from his role on Thursday afternoon. The matter will be formalised on Monday night and he will receive a payout.
The bulk of the councillors have declined to comment, which again is their right.
But hopefully, for the sake of transparency, there will be some comment from our civic leaders once the matter is dealt with.
