Garry Charters, 37, appeared before Magistrate Philip Stewart charged with the murder of fellow Forbes man, Mathew Lebrocque, 31.
The family of Mr Lebrocque including his mother were in the gallery for the proceedings.
The visibly distraught mother screamed “why?”
Mr Charters did not apply for bail.
Magistrate Stewart formally refused bail.
The matter was adjourned to Parkes Local Court on February 19, 2018.
Emergency services were called to a Forbes address about 1.20am on Sunday after reports a man had been injured and he was taken to Forbes Hospital with significant head injuries but was pronounced dead later in the morning.
A crime scene was established at the property and officers canvassed the area.
Detectives from Lachlan Local Area Command commenced inquiries. About 3.40pm police arrested Mr Charters, who was taken to Forbes Police Station where he was charged with murder.
