More residential development in the CBD would bring a “motza” into the city, says Dubbo Regional councillor Vicki Etheridge.

There’s a strong need for more residential development, Cr Etheridge said, especially housing that would cater for retirees.
A 20-residence development in Macquarie Street is currently being coordinated by former Dubbo City councillor Kim Williams and his wife Ros. Maas Group Family Properties are also planning to establish 200 serviced apartments and 90 residential apartments at the site of the former Daily Liberal building in the main street.
Cr Etheridge said she was really excited by the developments.
“It’ll be a landmark thing for Dubbo and hopefully it’ll create interest with other developers. We need to look at this, we can make a motza,” Cr Etheridge said.
The councillor said she hoped the developments would be the catalyst for other companies to do the same.
While she didn’t want to do anything that would harm the Williams’ or Maas developments, Cr Etheridge said she wanted council to talk to more developers about establishing housing in the main street.
“We’ve got a lot of retiring farmers from Warren coming here. I’ve been speaking to quite a few of them and they would like to buy something like what the Williams are doing in the main street,” she said.
Retirees didn’t want large houses or lawns that needed to be mowed, Cr Etheridge said. She said housing in Macquarie Street would also make them close to amenities such as shopping centres.
There was no doubt that more housing was needed in Dubbo, it was simply a case of finding the right place, the councillor said.
