When you think of great moustaches names such as Tom Selleck, Ron Burgundy, Errol Flynn and Albert Einstein are sure to figure high on the list.

And on a national scale you could check out pretty much any Australian cricketer from the 1970s and 80s – think Boony, Swervin’ Mervyn Hughes, Allan Border, DK Lillee.
Locally, some of Dubbo’s best mos come in the media.
Our editor at the Daily Liberal, Brian O’Flaherty, has some facial follicles, as does respected TV cameraman ‘Rusty’ Kinsey.
But there’s also some shockers.
Who could forget the efforts of then mayor Mathew Dickerson and councillor Greg Mohr back in 2015?
Or when a robust group of young journos tried to go toe-to-toe on the mo with Calare MP John Cobb back in the day.
Why all the focus on moustaches?
Well we’re glad you asked, because the mens health month known as Movember is just around the corner.
After a month of pinking up Dubbo in aid of the McGrath Foundation and their push for more breast care nurses, local real estate agent and all-round good guy Adam Wells is becoming a Mo Bro for Movember.
The annual celebration of flavour savers kicks off on Wednesday, with those taking part allowed to sculpt and manipulate their soup strainers for the following 30 days.
For Mr Wells, Movember takes on added significance as it is aimed at raising funds for men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer and mental health.
“My dad passed away from prostate cancer and bone cancer, so my brother Kyle and I try to get behind it,” he said.
“I think as fathers, and as males, we tend to just say ‘it will be right’ but when you get older and you have kids, it’s not just about you any more.
“Spending an hour being uncomfortable with your doctor is better than getting sick and potentially leaving your family behind. Instead of saying ‘it will be right’ we need to go out and get checked.
“After the month we’ve had with Pink Up Dubbo I don’t know if I’ll be raising money, but I’ll be spreading the message by growing the mo and if people ask what I’m doing I’ll point them to the Movember website to donate some cash.”
The Movember Foundation started back in 2003 when two mates – Travis Garone and Luke Slattery - met up for a quiet beer in Melbourne and had an idea.
They rallied some mates and that year 30 blokes took part in the inaugural Movember.
Fast forward to 2018 and there is expected to be more than 5 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas engaging in the fun and frivolity that comes with good and bad moustaches.
On the website www.movember.com.au the organisation outlines the reasons why they do what they do.
“Prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years,” it reads.
“Testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50. Three quarters of suicides are men. Poor mental health leads to half a million men taking their own life every year.”
The foundation has set a goal to achieve a 25 per cent reduction in the number of men dying prematurely by 2030.
Given Movember is as much about fun as it is about anything, we’d love to see your photos throughout the month.
Contact the Daily Liberal Facebook page to leave us your photos, which we will put into a gallery to show off the best (and worst) of Dubbo’s mos.
