The depth of talent available to captain Mitch Bower this season was evident as Ben Patterson made a powerful 77 from number eight after Jordan Peacock had proved his class at the top of the order again in making 82.
Those two helped Bower’s side pile on 9/260 from the 50 overs and then a clinical all-round bowling effort saw Parkes, so often a thorn in Dubbo’s side in the past, rolled for just 84.
While the captain felt it was one of the poorer Parkes side seen in some time, lacking “the kind of depth its renowned for”, he was pleased with his team’s efforts.
“Some of the top order probably didn’t step up like we should have but Jordan Peacock did his job and he’s playing some great cricket,” he said.
“Then ‘Patto’ came in and hit the ball clean showed he’s a class act. He probably hasn’t done that enough in rep cricket in the past but he proved he can do it.
“And then Tommy Atlee batted extremely well at the end and stayed with ‘Patto’.”
Peacock had held things together early after the likes of Jordan Moran (2), Bower (10) and Marty Jeffrey (0) missed out.
His 67-run fourth-wicket partnership with Henry Railz (29) got things back on track before Patterson took over late.
Atlee, who has been batting in the middle order for club side Colts, made 30 not out from number 10 and helped Dubbo pass 250.
The rain around the region late last week had little affect on the pitch but Bower said the outfield was “very slow” and cost his side a few more runs.
New-ball bowlers Will Lindsay and Patterson then made a fine start, reducing Parkes to 1/15 from eight overs before Ben Semmler struck twice to make it 3/19.
Leg-spinner Darrel Williams again showed how much of a valuable addition he will be this season when taking 3/16 from 10 overs, never allowing Parkes into the match.
His figures were the best of the Dubbo bowlers while Semmler (2/18) was the other multiple wicket-taker and Lindsay (1/7), Peacock (1/4), Atlee (1/9) and Marty Jeffrey (1/13) also struck.
Kyle Branscombe (23) top-scored for Parkes while gun bat Anthony Heraghty (4) missed out at the top of the order.
Dubbo now sits comfortably at the top of the Premier League ladder with two wins and a draw from a second round washout.
Bathurst, which downed Orange in one wicket thriller on Sunday, and Cowra each have one win.
“We had a quick chat after the game about how we feel we should go in this competition and what we need to do,” Bower said.
“This was another step towards where we want to go.”
Dubbo has the bye next up before hosting a final round match against Cowra in the New Year.
