Dubbo police are urging retail workers and consumers to be on the lookout after a quantity of counterfeit $50 notes were handed in to the local station on Thursday.

The notes, which are made using a dense paper rather than polymer, look predominantly like a real ‘pineapple’ but have distinctive markings, including Asian writing and marks through the zero, that quickly give away that they aren’t real.
“It’s not a great counterfeit job, but at the same time people don’t tend to take a lot of notice of notes when they get handed over,” Orana Local Area Command investigations manager Detective Sergeant Mark Meredith said.
“We just ask that people have a quick look at any $50 note they come across to make sure they’re legitimate. If they’re not, then bring them in to the station.”
