Archibald Prize winner in 1996 Wendy Sharpe was also being thanked for her contribution to the morning session, set to be followed by 32 workshops conducted by Dubbo and visiting artists, curators and staff of arts organisations.
The visual arts study day for art, photography and visual design students who will be in year 11 or 12 in 2018 was a first for the region and Dubbo.
Ms Lawry, who used a $2500 grant from the Visual Arts and Design Educators Association of NSW to launch the event, expects it to become biennial.
