A host of Dubbo Touch Football Association players will take on some of the best in the country this weekend when the NSW Country Championships come to town.

The Riverbank Ovals will play host to hundreds of players from around the state for two days of non-stop touch action.
Dubbo will have six sides involved – including two men’s opens side for the first time – and local association president Neil Webster is thrilled.
“It’s a great experience for these players,” he said.
“We’ve had an influx of new players in representative teams, that’s why we’ve got two men’s opens, and those teams have a sprinkling of experience with some debutantes or players who’ve been to only one Championships before so there’s a good mixture and they’re two very even teams.
“We’ve also had good numbers in the women’s too and there’s some younger players now.”
There’s no doubt some of the best players in Australia will be in action this weekend.
Current national players will feature in a number of the opens sides while a plethora of rising stars will also be showing their wares.
“Having Australian players out here doesn’t happen very often,” Webster said.
“There’s going to be some great touch players in a lot of age groups but certainly the marquee games will be the the male ad female opens, they’ll be great to watch and it will be a great experience for our guys to play against them.”
As well as the men’s opens, Dubbo will be represented in the women’s opens, mixed opens, men’s 40s and women’s 30s.
This weekend marks the second time in three years Dubbo has hosted the Championships, working in rotation with Wollongong.
The tournament returns to the Illawarra next year before the hosting tender is opened again.
“We want to put out best foot forward and put on a good show so people want to return,” Webster said.
“It’s such a good location for country sporting events and the facilities look great. The fields have never looked so good and council has done a great job.”
The Championships starts from 8am on Saturday morning and runs all day and continues on Sunday, when finals will start from 12pm.
