Police officers donned their special purple uniforms for Wear It Purple Day, and the two organisations hosted a free barbecue and information stall to show their support.
“Police are members of the community,” Inspector Dan Skelly said.
“We stand up for diversity, in that no one should be harassed because of their sexual preferences.
“We’re showing our support for everyone to be treated equally, regardless of their sexual preferences.”
“It’s very valuable for the police to show that they support equality and that they support every member of our community,” headspace youth access awareness worker Christina Rodgers said.
“Wear It Purple Day is about showing support for LGBTQI+ community, because they have high rates of mental health concerns.”
