Four of the seven major individual award winners at the Country Cricket Annual Dinner at the Cobram Barooga Sports Club were based in the Western Zone.
Jordan Moran and Lisa Griffith collected the Josh Hazlewood and Alex Blackwell medals respectively as male and female players of the year while Cowra’s Matt Crawley was named best coach and Bathurst-based Graeme Glazebrook was named best umpire.
“it was a heavily dominant awards night for Western Zone,” Moran said.
Griffith was delighted with her award, it came after her first season back in the game for some time, but she also reserved plenty of praise for Moran.
“I am so proud of him, he's kind of never been that player who has played in Sydney, he's always just played in the country area,” she said.
“I think it is a real credit to him, that after all these years he’s kept plugging away and he's definitely getting the credit he deserves for that now.
“He's done a fantastic job.”
Crawley was recognised after guiding Western Zone to NSW Country Championships glory.
Western progressed through the Southern Pool with two wins and loss before meeting Central Coast in the final.
Crawley’s troops skittled the Coast side for 133 before cruising to victory for the loss of only three wickets.
