A wreath-laying ceremony is among events planned by WaterNSW for August 18 and 19.
Former “dam builders” are being asked to register their interest in being part of the 50th anniversary celebrations by calling 0421 288 634 or emailing Burrendong50@waternsw.com.au.
The anniversary events coincide with Wellington’s bicentennial celebrations.
On August 19 dam tours leaving Wellington will take members of the public over its wall and to the spillway.
WaterNSW will also put up a marquee in Wellington’s Cameron Park to display historical information about the dam and offer children’s activities.
Construction of the dam started in 1946 and was finished in 1967. One of the largest inland dams in NSW, it can hold 1700 gigalitres of water which includes 1200 gigalitres of storage and a potential 500 gigalitres of surcharge for flood mitigation.
