The workmen are also mostly out of sight as they refurbish the hospital’s former maternity unit.
The $150 million stage three and four redevelopment of the hospital got under way in March.
Hansen Yuncken won the stage three tender to build the extra floor that may become a surgical inpatient unit of 34 beds in single and double rooms.
The company is revamping the old maternity ward to accommodate medical records and administration staff.
This week Health Infrastructure revealed construction milestones for residents of the city and western region unable to readily see them.
“Steady progress is being made on the $150 million Dubbo Hospital redevelopment stages three and four with the construction of the new inpatient unit and refurbishment of the old maternity unit commencing in March this year,” its spokesman said.
“Flooring works, and the installation of steel roof framing and building services is under way for the inpatient unit, as well as internal wall framing, plaster boarding and ceiling installation.
“Work will soon commence on the construction of the hospital level two linkway and the installation of internal services.
“The old maternity unit ...is also making progress. Wall sheeting and framing are under way, as well as the ceiling installation.”
The spokesman told of oversight of the project and consultation with hospital staff.
“Every element of construction is being carefully overseen by the redevelopment team to ensure the project is delivered on schedule and within budget,” he said.
“Work is also being carried out in close consultation with the hospital to minimise any disruption to clinical services.
“This includes notifying units well in advance of any potential noise disruptions.”
Health Infrastructure reported that detailed planning and design development for stage four redevelopment was nearing completion, with a tender scheduled to be awarded in the coming months.
“Stage four redevelopment includes the construction of a new three-storey building to further expand and enhance the hospital’s services,” its spokesman said.
The new building will house a range of departments including emergency, medical imaging, ambulatory care and renal dialysis. It will have a critical care floor comprising intensive care and coronary care units and a cardiac catheter laboratory.
