A Demons side ravaged by injury and unavailability showed plenty of fight last week but ultimately fell short against the undefeated Bathurst Bushranger Rebels and on Saturday the side travels to Cowra to take on a side at the opposite end of the ladder, the Blues.
Bunt isn’t taking anything for granted against the winless Blues and is keen for his side to take confidence from a win on Saturday.
“I think we’re at a point where we nearly have to win,” he said.
“If we lose and the (Bathurst) Giants win then we’ll be in a real fight for fourth and may even drop out.
“And then we play the Giants at home next week so we need some momentum because that will be a really tough game.”
While wary of the games ahead, Bunt and his side is focused on what shapes as a more tricky match than many would expect at Cowra’s Mulyan Oval.
The Blues have plenty of motivation, not only because they are chasing a first win, but the match is also another edition of the annual Popeye Shield memorial match.
Also making the trip difficult is the fact the Demons are again without a host of regulars.
Terry Lyons and Bailey Delaney remain out through injury while Jayden Wallace, Kim Woodman, Trevor Dutschke, Alex Randall and Khyle Borwick are also missing.
Despite that, there are some new faces linking up with the club with former Demons junior Dean Gould returning to the side from university while Christos Karageorgos is one of two Cobar-based players set to debut.
“I coached Dean as a junior and he’s a very good player,” Bunt said.
“Christos is experienced. He’s about 22 or 23 and has played at a high level in Adelaide but hasn’t played in 12 months due to his studies.
“But once he finds his feet he could become a very handy player for us and make a real impact.”
Saturday’s match starts at 2.30pm with the women’s side playing first at 12.45pm.
