Sunday evening meetings don’t roll around too often at Dawson Park and there’s even more reason to get trackside this weekend with all gate takings and money raised in the raffle being donated to the Ryan Medley Appeal.

There is 11 races on the card and Dubbo Greyhound Racing Club president Shayne Stiff said it was an easy decision to join in the outpouring of support for Medley.
The well known local sportsman remains in Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital after suffering neck and spinal injuries while playing for Dubbo CYMS’ reserve grade side in Group 11 on June 4.
“The Dubbo club and my committee saw it fit to get behind it, like the whole community has,” Stiff said.
“Ryan’s father Brian and brother Shane have done all the air conditioning work at the track and have looked after us so there is that close association. It’s a good opportunity for everyone to get out to the dogs with all gate takings and money from the raffle going to a good cause.”
The meeting also takes on some extra significance for the club as it would have been the final meet at Dubbo had the NSW government’s proposed ban on the greyhound industry gone through.
The ban was set to come into affect from July 1 only for it to be overturned by then premier Mike Baird in October of last year.
Stiff was thankful for that, adding the current racing Minster Paul Toole, who replaced Dubbo member Troy Grant in January, “seems to have got behind the industry” while remaining hopeful of appointments to the Greyhound Racing NSW board and position of CEO in the near future.
Before Sunday’s meeting, racing returns to Dawson Park on Thursday with an 11-race meeting.
Four heats of the Ladbrokes Cash In Zero to Three Wins (516m) series headline the meeting while much attention will also be on the Banjo Boy at Stud Stakes (400m).
“Baracca Keeping is there and so is Paul Braddon’s Marbo’s Magic,” Stiff said.
“He was a potential superstar before got injured but he’s working his way back. It’s a good field and I don’t think you’d find eight faster dogs over 400m anywhere in the state.”
Racing on Thursday starts at 11.53am.
