DUBBO Cycle Club riders were again prominent in the results during the weekend’s Coonabarabran to Gunnedah Handicap and Gunnedah to Tamworth Scratch races, with Mike Ticehurst cracking his first major New South Wales open race victory in taking out the division three scratch race in the latter.

Jason Farr (+8 seconds) was the best placed Dubbo Cycle Club rider in Saturdays popular 100km Keegan Downes Memorial Sundowner Handicap from Coonabarabran to Gunnedah, finishing eighth, while Tim Hines (+8 seconds) was a hairs breadth away from cracking a top ten finish, crossing the line in 11th and similarly Ticehurst was 12th.
Max Newton (+3.24 minutes) finished 44th and took the King of the Mountain prize, while David Gerrish (+4.14 minutes) was 59th, Adam Mitchell (+4.14 minutes) was 60th, Vaughn Eather finished 67th (+4.41 minutes), Heather Ticehurst was 92nd (+32.38 minutes) and Sarah Gordon crossed the line in 99th place (+42.46 minutes).
Justin Brooks and Chris Couper unfortunately both encountered some bad luck during the race and failed to finish, while Couper lucky to avoid a nasty crash, which saw a handful of riders crash heavily.
Mike Ticehurst broke away to win his maiden NSW Open event in Sunday’s 106km Gunnedah to Tamworth division three scratch race by 19 seconds, with clubmate Tim Hines finishing third, while Jason Farr (+2.06 minutes) seventh in a bunch that also included David Gerrish (8th) and Justin Brooks (tenth).
Adam Mitchell finished 18th in the division one scratch race 8 minutes and 29 seconds down on the winner Rylee Field, while Chris Couper crossed the line in 15th in the division two scratch race.
Heather Ticehurst found her place on the podium after finishing third and 6 minutes and 21 seconds behind the winner, while Sarah Gordon finished was 11th.
The next round of the Dubbo City Toyota Road Racing Series will take place on Saturday, June 24 with a 26km handicap on the testing North Geurie course, while the Dubbo City Toyota Junior Road Racing series will continue on Sunday from 2pm on the Sheraton Road course.
Junior riders Danny Barber, Luke Ensor, Dylan and Kurt Eather, Zac, Zara and Haylee Fuller will travel south for the Illawarra Junior Tour this weekend.
The seven Dubbo Cycle Club riders will look to continue their strong individual form from the recent junior tours into this weekend’s event.
Barber and Dylan Eather will again be the top two riders to watch in the under-15 men’s division, while Haylee Fuller will be the rider to catch in the under-15 women’s division along with Zara Fuller who has strung together some fine performances so far this season.
Zac Fuller will look to improve on his impressive fourth placing at the recent Goulburn Junior Tour, with Kurt Eather and Ensor the marked men in the very strong under-17 men’s division.
