Led by Abby Stammers, who picked up player of the match honours, and a two try effort from the evasive Karlee Funnell, the Blayney girls stormed to victory having trailed the Dubbo outfit early on.
That initial blow came from electric Dubbo fullback Majayda Darcy, but it proved a lone strike as the Blayney girls looked to nullify the effectiveness of the Senior Campus gun by often deploying a triple team on her each time she handled the ball.
It proved a telling tactic.
“We defended really well as a unit, we had two or three look after (Darcy) all the time. That makes a big difference when you nullify their best players,” Blayney High coach Clint Giddings said.
“They put their perfect game in, when we attacked we ran in twos and threes and created gaps … it’s probably the best game they’ve played out of all of our games, and that’s five lead-up games.
“That’s the best one we’ve played. We’ve saved the best for last.”
After trailing 4-0 early, Blayney scored 24 unanswered points through Abby and Sophie Stammers, Georgia Calub and Funnell’s double, while Calub and Maddie Marmion both kicked goals.
“Most of the girls play on the weekend which makes it a bit easier,” Giddings added.
Georgia Holland crossed for Dubbo’s second try late in the piece, one converted by half Danielle Hams.
The league tag section of the Country Cup doesn’t progress through to the southern finals at Cootamundra in term three, although competition organisers are attempting to tee-up a clash between the Blayney girls and the winning Riverina school.
