It is the second major award in as many shows for Mr Sharkey after his Chev was named Custom Classic at Summernats in January.
He has just six weeks now before he heads off to Meguiars MotorEx at Sydney Olympic Park, the biggest car show in Australia.
There he will go up against some of the finest vehicles in Australia.
“It’s unbelievable when you are competing against cars that have cost $400,000 or $500,000 to restore,” Mr Sharkey said.
“It was a very good event at Tamworth. There were some very nice cars there and it was great to be awarded car of the show.”
More than 100 cars were on display at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Convention Centre as well as 60 Mercedes Benz that were part of an special exhibition.
The event was run by Tamworth Rotary West and raised more than $75,000 for charity.
Mr Sharkey and his dedicated and supportive wife Penny will head to MotorEx on July 22 and 23 and he has also been asked to take part in the Alice Springs Red Centrenats in September.
“It’s pretty exciting to be asked to attend Centrenats so we will make it a bit of a holiday up there,” he said.
Don’t expect to see Mr Sharkey’s Vivid Yellow Bel Air on the road any time soon because while it is a show car, it has to be kept in immaculate condition, free of stone chips and other wear and tear associated with driving on public roads.
