Nominations were released on Tuesday morning with 125 received for the seven-race meeting.
That number could rise further with nominations extended until Wednesday for four of the races.
Monday’s meeting, on the back of races on May 14, will be followed by two more in June, three in July, one of those the annual Silver Goblet meeting, as well as one in August before the attention turns to the springtime Gold Cup and Derby Day.
“There’s a nice little cluster of race meetings coming up,” Dubbo Turf Club general manager Vince Gordon said, before speaking about Tuesday’s nominations.
“They’re probably a little light compared with what we’re used to but some clubs would love numbers like that.
“But there will be lots of owners and trainers who will be happy because it means they’re going to get a run and there’s still a good group of trainers from all over the place.
“It’s good. I’m pretty happy with it.”
The most nominations received was 26 for the Class 2 Handicap (1400m) and also the Maiden Handicap (1400m) while there was 19 chances put forward for the F&M Maiden Plate (1100m).
Wyong’s Damien Lane, the Scone-based Brett Cavanough and Muswellbrook’s Tim McIntosh headline the trainer making the trip to Dubbo to take on the likes of hometown hopes Peter Nestor, Connie Greig, Clint Lundholm and the Lunn brothers.
“The track is performing well. There’s no doubt about that,” Gordon said.
“We had fair results (in the May 14 meeting) with winners on the inside, outside and through the middle.”
The Bancmark 70 Handicap (1400m) shapes as the main event on Sunday with Gulgong trainer Brett Thompson putting forward his Cup specialist Dark Mojo.
Mudgee’s Cameron Crockett will be hoping of a repeat effort from Artisitc Beauty, who he nominated, having won at Dubbo earlier this month while Lane’s Bench Star scored back-to-back placings at Scone recently.
Dubbo’s Garry Lunn has nominated the in-form Strathaird, having won at Dubbo and Parkes this month.
Before Dubbo’s meeting on Monday, western area trainers will be out for success at Bathurst on Thursday.
Dubbo trainers Connie Greig and Nicola Edwards will have Malibu Stacey and Elriz respectively in the Benchmark 54 Handicap (1400m) while Michael Mulholland has Lucky Halo and Juju Man set to go around in the Class 1 and Maiden Plate (1800m) and Class 3 Handicap (1800m).
Bathurst’s seven-race meet starts at 1.05pm.
