Lest we forget

To commemorate Anzac Day, the Dubbo library will host a special display featuring trench art provided by local collectors as well as silk postcards sent home from soldiers serving in World War I and World War II. The display will be available for viewing from Friday April 21 until Friday May 19.

The life of a soldier

Experience what life was like for a soldier by reading All I See is Mud, written by local author Andrew Dunkley.  Originally released as an audiobook only, the book has recently been published in print, with both formats available at the library. All I See is Mud depicts the story of Andrew’s grandfather, Stan Dunkley, a soldier who served in World War I and enlisted in the army when he was just 16 years of age. The story combines fact with fiction and follows Stan and his mates as they go through basic training, travel by ship to England and ultimately join the 18th Battalion on the Western Front. This deeply intimate re-telling of an ordinary soldier and the terrible conditions he endured in the trenches along the front lines of the battlefield is a must read.
