The three-night drive-in spree after a three decade absence attracted thousands of movie goers and hundreds of cars over three nights. It was organised by the Youth Council and the Dubbo Regional Council.

The community definitely wants it back, according to comments on the Daily Liberal’s Facebook page.

Tanya Minner felt the drive-in should “re-opened altogether”, Justine N Kirk Pettet wants it open every weekend, Serena Rice “at least once a month” and Amy Naef-Artist “would love to see this happen once a month - or even once every few months”.

Fans heartily thanked the Youth Council, volunteers, police and sponsors.

Some patrons complained about delays getting in and out and missing part of a movie.

Hannah Gannon: "Hats off to all involved for a lovely evening. I attended the second session, so had a bit of a delay. Seeing "Top Gun" on the BIIIG screen was worth the wait. Hopefully events like this can happen again - it could be a real opportunity for Dubbo, as I know there were people from out of town who made the effort to attend, and plenty of locals who missed out on tickets. Well done, and thanks again!”

Rebecca Walker: “Looks like all the good fun stopped with Willy Wonka. While the film was enjoyable, having to wait over an hour and a half just to get into the 2nd session plus then waiting another half hour before the film started, then another half hour after it ended just to leave, was NOT enjoyable. We spent more time waiting in our car than we did watching the actual movie! ...”

Kelly Bridges: “Loved seeing Top Gun on the big screen. Brought back some great memories from when I was a kid going to the drive-in. Very well organised. Yes there was a bit of a wait for the second session but I enjoyed the atmosphere of being back there …”
